Sri Ramakrishna at one stage found himself blocked in his sadhana. He felt depressed and was wondering how he could ever progress.In this state of his despair, Totapuri (his Guru) came to him, touched him on his forehead with his finger and lo! Ramakrishna was thrown into a spirtual trance and rocketed into the highest state of spiritual consciousness.The struggling and groping aspirant Ramakrishna instantly got metamorphosed into a Parmahansa-the supremely enlightened being by the mere touch of a spiritual Master.

Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa did the same to his disciple Narendra what Totapuri had done unto himself. By his mere touch, Ramakrishna transformed the agnostic Narendra into a spiritual master and saint, the glorious Swami Vivekanandha

Even the supreme Lord Rama himself had to take recourse to a spiritual; preceptor, sage Vashista: so also, Lord Krishna sought the guidance of sage Sandipani. Dnyaneshwar Maharaj waxes eloquence all through his Dnyaneshwari, how much he owed-in fact, everything – to his guru (and brother) Sri Nivritti Nath. ‘Like the paras stone, he had transformed me: a base metal into precious gold’. Rightly so, in Indian tradition, guru is given a place as high as the supreme God himself. (‘Gurur Bramha, Gurur Vishnu, Gururdevo Maseshwaraha – Guru sakshat Parabramha tasmai sri Gurave namaha’ – Guru is Bramha, Guru is Vishnu, Guru is God Maheshwara; in fact, Guru manifests ultimate Brahman; salutations to him).
